Last year I was added as a writer into the medium publication RESONATES by Morris T after reaching out to me when I was challenging myself to write every day for 30 days in November, and he had come across my writing.
I became a Medium member in January last year, but last year I just wrote sporadically and not really investing my time here on Medium. Therefore I lost about $25 last year in earnings than what I was paying in medium membership.
I was thrilled to be invited and accepted into his medium publication. So I tested myself in November last year to write every day for 30 days and was successful.
I didn’t write anything in December and therefore gave myself that month to recharge and get ready for the new year.
As 2020 was coming to a close in its last few days, I decided to write every day this year. I would take it week by week and month by month to track my progress.
Therefore I completed January of 31 days, February of 28 days, and I’m now up to day 20 of March. Only towards the end of February to this month have I finally gained curation!
This year, my work output is more, and therefore, so is my earnings, and my writer's muscle has really improved.
Morris T has been part of that success with his encouragement. Many people are always in a hurry to put people down to make themselves feel better, but not Morris T. He’s really helped me stay on track and is not only my editor on his publication RESONATES, but I consider him a friend now too.
He provides feedback and suggestions on improvement and my second set of eyes if I’ve made any typo errors. Even though I do use Grammarly to help me, some typos still do slip through the cracks, unfortunately. He also promotes my work on FaceBook groups we are both part of.
There’s a three-hour time difference in time zones and an ocean between us, with me being the one three hours in front. Religiously I’ve been submitting every day to his publication since January 1st this year around 7–8 pm my time and his time around 4 pm-5 pm.
But last night I was delayed watching a movie I hadn’t seen before that I was on Australian TV last night and I wanted to see how it ended. It didn’t finish till nearly midnight, my time and Morris T time being 9 pm.
He knew this was unusual for me and contacted me via messenger to make sure I was okay because I hadn’t submitted it yet. When I heard the notification on my phone, I laughed as I instantly knew it was him, but I was really touched by how he reached out, expressing his concern noticing I was off my usual routine.
I did submit it, though, just a few hours later than usual.
I’ve made so many friends over the internet that are in some ways closer to me than people in my everyday life. It’s extraordinary to find connections like that.
I’ve met some friends over the internet in person, and I hope to meet my editor and friend Morris T one day too.
