The power of the pause..

Happy New Year 2020! Wow how refreshing is it that we are in a new year and a new decade.

I always love the start of a new year, it’s a clean slate after all the craziness leading up to Christmas and a time to reflect on the lessons learned from the past.

As a member of toastmasters international for now nearly three years I’ve learnt so many skills in communication and presentation..

For example, we avoid using filler words like “um” “ah" and “so" and therefore we learn to pause in between.

For me also, the pause gives me time to prepare and decide.

I’ve started blogging now as a filler in for my resume as I’m currently in between jobs and unfortunately my last job finished in October last year.

I loved everything about it, the environment I worked in bought out the best in me and I was part of the team.

But unfortunately it was contract and temporary so that’s the way that story goes.

But for a few months I was just like everyone else and included in the team. It was my greatest pleasure to be the one people came to for help rather than them expecting me to be the one needing help.

It didn’t matter that I couldn’t walk, my job didn’t require standing up anyway and most things were perfect height for me anyway.

I got paid a nice weekly income for a few months which was nice and as cold of a morning as it was to get up early and go to work, I loved having a routine.

I gained so much confidence in myself and and added skills like using office 365, consultation manager and cm9.

I leant how to transfer calls, take messages, schedule meetings, arrange catering and my favourite was using E-lms which was for processing of the outgoing mail in the office

I went through all the stages of grief afterwards, grief does not just me a death has occurred.. grief can be over an ending too.

I miss everything about it, not just the weekly income I had but the people I worked with. But I’m also so grateful for the wonderful memories I left with.

I’ve had so many people say to me that I’m a writer because of the way I express myself and articulate..Therefore, as I continue my quest for employment again my main aim is to have something to add to my resume and therefore my gap between jobs won’t be too big.

I was born with my disability and have been on disability pension since I was sixteen years old.

I’ve had so many people say to me. “You don’t need to work, you’re on a pension"

Though I think the worst comment I received from someone was them refer to my job as a day out for me.

Now in this new year and new decade I’m starting from experience this time rather than from scratch.

#employability
