Were you listening?
As a member of Toastmasters International since 2017. I have gained so many skills and confidence in myself.
At present, we are meeting via zoon every two weeks as our usual venue of meeting up in person has been closed since March.
Anyway, one of the many exercises we do is called where you listening.
Basically someone is assigned a task and they undertake that role.
And I was assigned that person last week.
Basically, it’s intended to test people’s listening and absorbing information rather than just wait for the person to finish their speech. Listening is actually harder than we think because people don’t often listen to understand, they listen to reply and usually with judgement or argument. And yes we’re all guilty of that, even me, more so if it’s a person I simply don’t want to be in the presence of which just creates an awkward moment.
So my job was to listen intently to each person’s speech and pick out a few points to ask the group about after the speech was finished. It was kind of amusing in a way to see so many get questions right but also wrong too.
